An Open Letter to Openly Religious Olympic Athletes

Dear athletes crediting God in their interviews,

While we come from a free country and you can choose to credit God for your victory if you wish, I don't think it's the Right Thing To Do.

Why?

Because God didn't wake you up at 5am every day for your workouts. You did. Or your alarm clock did. Which was probably made by humans in China, not by God.

Also: God didn't win the race. You did. If God had a hand as you might advertise, guess what: GOD WINS EVERY RACE. Kind of takes the suspense and wonder out of sport.

Finally, I think it's very rude to use the God-given (or Godless?) talents of your coaches and the support of your friends and family to get your little medal then pass all the credit along to someone else. You're kind of an ass if you don't acknowledge the human beings who are tangibly here in front of you and who may have given up a lot for you.

Give God a honorable mention for looking over you, fine, but giving it all to God? I don't think he'd want it that way.

Much love.

Sweet, Melodic Rage

Music does many things, of course, but one of the more clever things it does is making poetry palatable.

Downstream Docs

Making flowcharts is fun because you're solving problems. Receiving flowcharts is not fun because you are being handed a problem. (Apologies to those I've sent flowcharts to!)

Watch out for falling objects

When young children go to get something out of a toy box it looks exactly like it does in the cartoons.

Bananas and Talcum Powder

I think organic food (esp produce) needs to be repositioned from "granola crunchers" to "people with taste buds". There really is a noticeable difference.

Go Jump Off a Bridge

I think I need to take up the sport of base jumping. Then, when things get crazy at work I can go jump off a bridge, but then come back to the office once I'm done.

Manufacturing "Truth"

When companies put out ads that say "get the facts" it's usually enough to make people think that they're right and then proceed to not go out and get the actual facts.
